Geographical location
West Pennant Hills is located in the Shire of Baulkham Hills, about 25 Kilometres Northwest of Sydney's CBD.
History
West Pennant Hills was originally populated by the Darug people, who were the custodians of what is today referred to as the Greater Sydney. This tribe was divided into a number of clans, each living in different locations throughout Sydney. When the first European settlers showed up, the clans 'passed away', and this has actually made it hard for modern anthropologists to find more info about them. It is not also clear how this land referred to as West Pennant Hills was used during the colonial duration.
When a railway line was built, the area around it was named pennant Hills East. After some time, a school was integrated in this location, and it was called Pennant Hills West. Eventually, the whole area around Thompsons Corner acquired the name West Pennant Hills. It is thought that this residential area was named after Sir Thomas Pennant who was a popular biologist and lived in this area till his demise in 1798.
